NewsBerths, a mailing list dedicated to discussing matters affecting the maritime sector, has been under attack since January 2003. This disruption in the exchange of mail through malicious inclusion of virus attachments has prompted us to come up with a better way of exchanging files and opinions. The mailing list shall continue to be open, but file attachments have been disabled. Files for sharing are going to be posted on this website and available for downloading by NewsBerths subscribers.
Purpose
Dedicated to the pursuit of free expression, specially in discussing issues involving the maritime industry and its public administrators in the belief that:
‘‘The interest of society and the maintenance of good government demand a full discussion of public affairs. Complete liberty to comment on the conduct of public men is a scalpel in the case of free speech. The sharp incision of its probe relieves the abscesses of officialdom. Men in public life may suffer under a hostile and unjust accusation, the wound may be assuaged by the balm of a clear conscience. A public official must not be too thin-skinned with reference to comment upon his official acts.’’

This website was primarily inspired by an attempt to suppress legitimate grievances and concerned advocacies aired through the Newsberths mailing list when we received the following text message:
“pls call basilio and gambito, their website derogatory to pgma, advise them pgma really upset and to pls cleanup their website asap…pls confirm when they’ll have done it..tku”

Dedication
To the “young once”, the retired, retiring and tired civil servants at the PPA and the MARINA… although we are already in the “pre-departure area” to the next life, there is still something we can do to those whom we leave behind. Imbibe in the idealism and hopes of the young ones and do your jobs well.
