Gateway to perdition

(Updated)

  1. May 29, 2003 – A letter was sent to the President requesting for the investigation into the circumstances leading to the Dona Eva Macapagal Passenger Terminal at the South Harbor, which had just been inaugurated. The letter asserts that
“We have taken time to review the events surrounding the construction of the terminal starting from the time that PPA announced the project coinciding with the third death anniversary of your mother. Based on our findings, we would like to request for an investigation into the strong possibility that the terminal project was not properly conceived and executed. It appears that the amount used for the project was sourced by ATI from the reductions in what it was supposed to pay to PPA as government’s share. This being the case, it would be quite impossible for PPA to pass on any reduction in government share to the port users, as you originally directed the PPA to implement.”

Furthermore, it contained “A TIMELINE OF NEWS AND EVENTS ON THE SUPER TERMINAL AT THE SOUTH HARBOR” on the details of the project.

  2. June 18, 2004 – An Inter-office Memo from the DOTC instructs the PPA GM to take action on the request to look into the matter. This letter taxes the sincerity and credibility of the President in stamping out corruption from her administration.  Why should the accused be tasked with investigating himself?  What about the representatives of the President who sit on the PPA Board, are they not there to see to it that her priorities are carried out?  What then are her priorities when apparently words do not match the deeds? The PPA GM merely disregarded the memo as if it never was received by him.

  3. January 27, 2003 – Two broadsheets, the Malaya and the Daily Tribune, came out with identical stories about “GMA’s frequent night trips to the house of the Aboitizes in San Lorenzo Village in Makati.

  4. Payback time?  The favors received by Aboitiz from the PPA GM seems to support a declaration of his “unbounded gratitiude” for the assistance given to him and Starlight Corp. in ‘acquiring’ various Aboitiz assets.
