N Harbor sale under BOT approved

THE Philippine Ports Authority Board recently approved the proposal of the PPA management to privatize North Harbor under the build-operate-transfer scheme.

In a statement PPA general manager Oscar Sevilla said the privatization will pave the way to make the port a world class facility.

Port Workers Set to Strike over Privatization Scheme

When the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the privatization of the North Harbor is finalized this month, workers at the port will stage a work stoppage even if this meant no wage for a day, a week, or a month. “We will endure it because we have no choice…it’s either we fight or we lose our jobs,” said Ronald Carascal, 32 a shop steward rotation officer for United Dockhandlers, Inc. (UDI).

Port authority to equip, privatize North Harbor

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has announced it will equip the North Harbor with two more cargo terminals.

In response to a proposal made by members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the PPA has decided to construct two terminals, instead of three as originally proposed, for Roll-on/Roll-off and Lift-on/Lift-off cargo and passage operations.
