What, congressmen want more pork?

Remember the Smokey Mountain reclamation scandal exposed by former solicitor general Frank Chavez and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago? They said it was unconstitutional and made several government financial institutions lose billions of pesos. Well, it is turning out that the exposes were only the smoke from a fire smoldering in, of all places, the sea, if we are to believe Parañaque City Representative Ed Zialcita. He blames the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for igniting the fire.

I got this in my mailbox and immediately was reminded of the latest attack from Spy Biz of the Philippine Star.  This must have been the source of the nasty column and if this turns out to be accurate then someone at the Philippine Star knows the source of these libelous statements and claims.

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matters.”, intoned one of America’s greatest human rights activist- Martin Luther King, Jr.. Today, my colleagues let me invite you to peruse over this important issue which tries to tear down an institution that was organized and nurtured to save the poor and destitute dwellers from a smoking mountain of garbage.

I am naturally attracted to any issue, which impinges on housing, and urban development, it being the main area of concern of the committee which I chair- the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.
